Introduction to Tianshui Normal University

Founded in 1959 and a university since 2000, Tianshui Normal University is  known for its excellent teaching quality, research potential, and strong links to local agriculture, industry and education. This was confirmed by the nationwide University Evaluation Program initiated by the Ministry of Education in 2007. The university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in arts, science, education, history, law, engineering, economy, and management for Chinese and overseas students, and also provides Continuing Professional Development Programs for local teachers and agricultural technicians.

 

Campus and Location

Tianshui Normal University is situated in Tianshui, one of the most welcoming cities in the southeast region of Gansu Province. As an integrated fruit production base of China, the city is known for its pleasant climate and two world-renowned historical monuments: the Temple of Forefather Fuxi and Maiji-shan Grottoes of Buddhism.

People and Facilities

Tianshui Normal University has a population of over 16,000 students. Among them are 14,000 full-time students, 97 preparatory students and 5 oversea students. It has about 900 staff including 229 professors or associate professors, 392 doctor’s or master’s degree academic staff, 8 yearly-contracted foreign teachers and 50 guest professors.

The university library has a collection of over 1,440,000 books (including 540,000 electronic books), and 4500 kinds of Chinese and international periodicals.

Teaching and Research

The university consists of 12 schools, 22 departments, 8 research centers and 20 academic institutes. It has 1 national-level key laboratory, 1 national-level key social science research base, 1 engineering research center and 2 teaching experiment centers. It runs 2 national-level feature education programs, 1 national-level key discipline and 16 provincial-level courses. In the recent decade, hundreds of academic projects including 26 national projects and 67 provincial projects have been completed, 4700 pieces of academic papers together with 156 monographs and textbooks have been published, and 151 papers have been published on SCI or EI Journals, and over 230 pieces on CSSCI source journals. The university has long-established academic exchanges with the universities and research institutes in America, Britain, France and Australia.

Journal of Tianshui Normal University, which was first issued in 2000, is one of the Chinese Academic Journals of Synthetic Evaluation Database. It received an award as a high-quality social science journal of China.

Oral English Job Description (3 Openings)

◗ Workload: 16 hours of teaching per week and 2 hours of weekly English corner (offering speaking practice).

◗ Contract runs from September to June.
